I spent my childhood with my nose in a book or putting pen to paper, writing countless short stories. My passion for storytelling and words evolved into a love for journalism. I took countless Spanish classes and spent four months living in Toledo, Spain, in 2024. My love affair with Spanish emboldened me to pursue journalism, as I am uniquely positioned to tell diverse populations' stories in suburban Minnesota. Throughout my career, I covered the University of Minnesota's changing health care system, local government and business development. Just six months into my career as a professional journalist I was tasked with capturing the experiences of suburban Minnesotans during Operation Metro Surge. I used my Spanish to tell the stories of families facing deportation and covered local governments' response to the crisis.  Check out my portfolio here!

Eden Prairie residents felt the increased presence of immigration enforcement in their community, as did many other Minnesotans. My coverage of Nancy Parra's experience as she grappled with her husband's detention while mothering her three children is a familiar story for many Minnesota families across the state. I used my Spanish skills to speak with Parra, whose first language is Spanish, to create a comfortable environment as she shared a difficult and traumatic experience with me. This story is the first in a two part series on Parra and her husband's experiences as they face the consequences of inhumane deportation policies on two fronts: the one who was detained and the one left behind.
